Matthew 'On the Buses'
Jobspec (Supported Employment delivered by The Brothers of Charity Services in Lancashire) is usually associated with working with people to explore their skills, abilities and aspirations (known as the Vocational Profile) and to identify paid employment opportunities that fit the person’s (and the employer’s) needs. More and more people are enjoying the benefits which paid employment has to offer such as creating new friendships and relationships, having a real purpose, greater financial independence, increasing self-esteem and in feeling valued in ones local community and in society as a whole.
More recently an increasing number of people have been successful in using public transport to travel independently to access their employment, day services (such as the Social Enterprises, Marina Café, Heaton Street, etc) or simply for social and recreational reasons. One recent example of this kind of success is Matthew. Matthew was using the BOC transport provision and local taxi companies to travel to the Land Based Unit (LBU) until he decided to ask Jobspec to help support him to use buses. He is now using the bus to travel to the LBU – a journey that costs him just 50 pence each way…!
Jobspec use a tried and tested method of Public Transport Training which when combined with their Road Safety Awareness Training programme proves very popular (and successful). To learn more please contact the Jobspec Team on (01257) 224974 or Lee Morris (Team Leader) on 07734 386417.
